We Are A Duplicitous Race

We say we want freedom — but only if it’s our brand of freedom.  We’re quite willing to pass laws that take away the other person’s freedom if it infringes on our morals, our ethics, and especially our religion.

We say we can’t stand “immorality” — but the adult entertainment industry is larger than the Hollywood, and continues to grow at nearly double digit rates. And failure rates for adult websites are lower by two-thirds than that of other businesses. Clearly we’re only “outraged” by “immorality” when “the sun shines.” Behind closed doors we groove to our porn.

We ball our fists up and demand that “the government fix it”  — be it “universal” health care, high gas prices, or the current financial mess. But when the taxes are due we figure every angle and scream bloody murder at how much we have to pay, oblivious to the clear trail of dots between our growing demands that government take care of our every need and the cost of seeing to those needs.

We get all steamed and stewed at the “greed” on Wall Street — but nurse our 401Ks and IRAs and money market funds like a mother hen, oblivious to the reality that 80% of  Wall Street is really us. We can’t seem to grasp the collective reality everything from our pay checks to our car loans come from and go back to that “greedy” place.

We decry the evils of the big box stores with their part time, minimum wage workers, imported products, and devastating impact on American industry — then we bargain shop to the last drop for the absolute best buy on our new tv or stereo or pants suit. And where do we shop? At the big boxes, where the products are all imported and prices are lower.

Yes… We are a duplicitous race.

Meh! I’m Tired!

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything. And right now I’m so wasted deep thought is quite beyond me.

For the last three weeks I’ve been juggling several different projects for work. I finished a bathroom remodel (even though the customer’s check that paid for it bounced!!!!), completed the schedule for a kitchen repair, and juggled the balls for the design/build project, which is now tangled up in California’s regulatory and engineering bureaucracy. Not helping matters: Now that the plans are in their final phases of completion, the owners decided they wanted changes.

Okay, I really don’t care — as long as I’m compensated for my time! And of course, as long as they understand that changes this late the process usually slow down the regulators.

So… Owning a business is stressful at times. Gee! There’s news — NOT!

I’ve got another design/build project coming on line the first of the year. Lets hope that the gaps that remain in my schedule till then get filled up!!!
